Joan Roberts came to Sedona, Arizona as a new retiree from the Monterey Bay area of California’s central coast in 2003. The red rock magic and artistic climate of Sedona renewed her interest and love of the arts. She serves as a volunteer and a member of the Board of Directors at the Sedona Arts Center and has re-established herself as an artist.
A graduate of San Jose State University with a major in art, Joan taught art to middle school students and in adult education programs for eighteen years before becoming a school administrator. Her career allowed her to promote arts education for students within her care through teacher training and support. Her personal artwork during this time focused on spinning, weaving, stained glass and watercolor painting. Her new work in jewelry design has become a passion as she looks for new ways to create distinct wearable art pieces. Joan enjoys the active and ongoing search for interesting materials and techniques that will keep her designs unique and one-of-a-kind. She also loves sharing techniques and materials with students, teaching individuals in her studio.
